Art Hansen
Print Statement
Born in Seattle, Washington, Hansen remembers visiting his grandparents’ north end beach house as a boy; his grandfather founded Vashon’s first bank. And while the landscapes may change, Hansen’s constant love affair with elements of nature and his innate ability to create his visual imagery endures. Known for his watercolors and etchings, he honors everyday things in our lives--- an exquisite red poppy, asparagus spears rising from the soil, one of his beloved barns or that awe-inspiring sunset over the Olympics become visual poems under his well-practiced brush.
Art Hansen turned 80 in 2009 he said he will continue painting as long as his hands allow. He refers to his tall stack of sketch books, a lifetime of detailed drawings that provide the gem of inspiration for each piece. "I have to look a long time to find something that interests me, or a view; I’m always looking for a view. painting is a cerebral activity. There are so many choices."
Art Hansen passed away in August 2017, recently working with his sons to move forward, the decision was made to start selling the work with the hope that the people who have always wanted to own the work are now able to do so.
